Article Submission and Review Process for Umění/Art
All submissions to Umění/Art, with the exception of contributions to the “Reviews” section, undergo a multi-stage evaluation process prior to acceptance for publication.
The first stage involves an editorial review, during which the editorial team assesses whether the manuscript aligns with the thematic scope of the journal and meets the basic formal and substantive criteria for potential publications.
In the second stage, the editorial board evaluates the overall scholarly and formal quality of the submission and recommends potential peer reviewers.
The third and most important stage is a double-blind peer review process.
At any stage in proceedings, the manuscript may be returned to the author for revision or may be rejected outright. The editorial team informs the author of the outcome of the evaluation process.
Peer Review
Manuscripts submitted for publication are reviewed by at least two independent experts in the field covered in the submission. Reviewers must not be in a conflict of interest with the authors (see the journal’s Publication Ethics for details).
Reviewers are selected exclusively by the editorial team based on recommendations from the editorial board. The peer review process is conducted under conditions of mutual anonymity. Peer reviews are internal documents of the editorial staff and are submitted solely to an authorised representative of the editorial team.
Reviewers must not distribute the submitted manuscript, share it with third parties, or use the information it contains for personal or other purposes.
A peer review form is available from the editorial office to facilitate preparation of the review. The standard timeframe for completing a review is two to four weeks.
The review should clearly offer both general and specific comments on the manuscript, including references to relevant scholarly literature that may be missing. The review must explicitly state whether the manuscript is recommend for publications and, if so, under what conditions.
Review outcomes
The editorial team communicates the results of the peer review to the author.
The author is required to respond to reviewers’ comments and revise the manuscript accordingly, following the editorial team’s guidance.
If an author has specific and substantiated reasons for not accepting certain reviewer comments, they must inform the editorial team, which will decide on how to proceed.
If an author has doubts regarding the legitimacy of the entire peer review process, they may submit a written response to the editor-in-chief. The editor-in-chief will share this response with the reviewers and the editorial board. The editorial board will then decide on the course of action to be taken.
In the event of any such dispute, the decision of the editorial board is final.
Fees and Remuneration
No fees are charged for the submission, processing or publication of manuscripts.
Authors do not receive any remuneration for submitting or publishing contributions.
Securing licensing rights for images used in a manuscript, translations into a foreign language, and other requirements necessary for publication are handled in agreement with the editorial team. These responsibilities rest primarily with the author.
