Re-identifying the Object. Gasholder, Visual Arts, Literature

Throughout the period of its existence, the purely technical structure of the gasholder in Libeň has acquired a great variety of meanings, reflected in artistic production. The authors of the article follow reflections on the structure in literature and fine art in a wide context from the 1930s until the post-war period, at which time it began to be newly incorporated - especially in photography. The gasholder motif even made its way into the works of Skupina 42 (Group 42), for which it was one of the characteristic symbols of city life and civilisation.
