Karel Škréta. Malíř českého baroka a jeho českobratrské kořeny

This article summarises knowledge to date on the confessional affiliation of Karel Škréta, specifically that of his background family, in the period before the Battle of White Mountain. It also provides recently obtained information identifying the names of the parents and siblings of Karel Škréta on a list of members of the Unity of Brethren dating from 1607. This written document was discovered in 2006 in Mladá Boleslav as part of the archive of Matouš Konečný. Sources connected with the lives of Škréta's closer and more extended family members have thus far suggested that he was part of a circle of supporters of the Unity of Brethren. The discovery of the Brethren archive, which is now housed in the Museum of Mladá Boleslav, definitively ranks Škréta's family among members of this faith in the period before the Battle of White Mountain.
