Jacob Matham, un épigone haarlemois et ses rapports avec ľ art de la cour de Rodolphe II

Although the Harlem artist Jacob Matham (1571-1631) never visited Prague, he was in contact with its art scene. In 1601, he gained the Emperor's privilege, which entitled him to disseminate graphic works modelled on Rudolf II's collection. The subject of this article are the preserved works engraved according to Spranger and Savery. The most important is Czech landscape with Beggar, which occupies a unique place in the history of "true to life" landscapes. It is the oldest and largest graphic work with this theme which - through its anecdotal genre-specific scene - returns to the tradition of the moralising landscape.
