Jiří Svoboda

Magdalénské umění v českých zemích. Variabilita stylu u paleolitických lovců

The article follows up on the author's discussion of the Gravettian of Moravia (Umění XLV, 1997, no. 5), which preceded the Magdalenian period. Drawing on examples of Magdelenian art, the most significant of which in the Czech Lands are found in the Pekárna cave in the southern part of the Moravian karst, Jiří Svoboda outlines the characteristic features of this unified Central European style. One of these is realism but also a tendency toward schematisation, expressed particularly in the stylisation of the female form. The end of the article touches upon Magdalenian ornament, characterised by a marked dynamism.
