Triumf, karneval, sv. Jakub. K interpretaci dřevěného kruhového štítu ze 16. století

The subject of the article is the circular shield from the National Museum's collection, decorated on the front side with a painting of a bizarre battle scene with animals and fantastic beings. At the edge of the tondo is a Spanish inscription with a plea to Saint Jacob. The painting, which is similar to the compositions of several paintings of Temptation of Saint Anthony from various Dutch artists of the 16th century, is attributed to Pieter Huys. The author of the article interprets the shield within the wider context of connections of the time and deduces a possible aim of its creation.
